Even Elijah after years of working for God as one of the greatest prophets had to learn knowing and doing the will of God through listening to the still small voice. He was so frustrated with Jezebel and Baal worship he gave up and asked God to take his life.

God asks him to go the mountain and stand there. The will of God A strong wind strikes the mountains and breaks rocks into pieces. However, the Lord was not in the wind. After that comes an earthquake, but God is not in it either. After that comes a fire and the Lord is not in the fire either.

However, after the fire comes the still small voice of God and asks Elijah what was he doing there? Knowing and doing the will of God will often perplex us with questions from God. Remember Job, first thing God does when he appears to him is to ask a question.

We mistake great winds, earthquakes, and fires as the voice of God. Most times it is the still small voice. Very few people can hear it. It is still which means it is stable and has no uncertainly or wavering. It is trustworthy. It is also small meaning very quiet, hardly audible. You have to be very alert to hear it. However, you will hear it.

This is the voice that tells you where to go and what to do and what is going to happen in the future. We all want this but most of us cannot go to the mountain nor go through winds, earthquakes, and fires before we can hear his voice. Knowing and Doing the Will of God does not always have to be dramatic.

Why is that in the most dramatic of situations we do not hear God nor is he even there? The bible tells us that God was not in the wind, earthquake, or fire? It means do not look for him to speak to you clearly in those dramatic and sometime traumatic situations or happenings. Nevertheless, wait until this drama is over and you will hear him speak to you very clearly and quietly.

Knowing and Doing the Will of God will often bring us to the point where we learn to be still and submissive for him to speak. After a traumatic incident we are mostly hushed and quiet. That is when we are vulnerable and God wants our attention. It is still and small. Be alert and you will hear it. This voice will let you know which way to turn to and which way we to avoid.
